How to Start a Rattery on Facebook

Note: Facebook prohibits the sale of live animals. You cannot use this platform to do so. You can only promote your Rattery and what you stand for.

First, you’ll want to pick out the name of your Rattery. You don’t need to include Rattery in the name. But you do need something original to you and Facebook. So make sure you search first to make sure you are being unique.

Here are some examples of Rattery names:

  • Teatree Rattery
  • Remy’s Rats
  • Smol Beans Rat Rescue
  • The Rat Agency
  • Reno Rats

[keep in mind ratteries will often abbreviate their name to 4 letters, like SMOL or RENO]

Create your page using your new Rattery name.

Great categories to use would be: Pet Adoption Service and Pet Breeder

To update your information, click on the three dots. Next click “edit”, where you can update all your information.

To change your URL, you will need a desktop. Then follow these steps:

Open settings and privacy
Select settings
Select page setup
Click on your name
Edit your username
Update your username

And you have successfully updated your profile page and URL.

Next, you should begin posting and joining rat groups in your area. For example, I live in CO, I am in a CO/WY Rat Group. You can find groups to join by using the search bar. There are also rehoming rat groups you can join as well.

What to Post:

At first, it can seem tough to keep up with the daily postings of established Ratteries around you. Never fear! As you start to have baby rats, you will find it easy to post!

In the meantime, it’s about building trust and a community around your breeding practices.

You can share all sorts of your thoughts and ideas, starting with a picture usually works best! And people love to see rats, and your operation. Don’t forget to use hashtags.

Of course, the next step would be to set up an instagram account. This is one of the best ways to build a positive community around your Rattery and connect with other Ratteries.
