MISCHIEFS MANAGED

We previously left off on Zoe who had 8 babies on October 16th. You can read our October Newsletter here.

Eragon (left) and Bunny (right)

Bunny x Eragon decided she would have her babies, the day after. She bore 13 healthy pups!

Our Holiday Babies

I have a few folks interested in adopting around the holiday time. So I started to breed Mounika for the second time: on October 5th. Theoretically, she is supposed to be pregnant 12 days after (they ovulate every 4 days).

Then we have to wait 21-24 days. That’s the gestation period. So, doing the math, the babies should arrive no later than: November 10th.

Then, because the males need to be separated at week 5, I also start adopting out then. This puts me at: December 15th. So… if all goes according to plan there will be babies! Most of which are accounted for.

Mounika is currently breeding with Smudge. I’m not sure how well it’s going though. I’m home full-time and I’m not hearing a lot of mating sounds. But every time I go to check on them, they are snuggling… so here’s to hoping it all works out (wrote on Oct. 23, 2025).

The babies are all turning out to be a rainbow of colors, especially Bunny x Eragon’s mischief:

November 9th: Mounika had 14 healthy pups on the 4th of November.

The Girls

Every single baby has face markings! It’s really cool, especially the boys:

The Boys

I’m still trying to figure out how other Ratteries take those beautiful pictures of their babies perfectly lined up…

All 14 – 8 boys and 6 girls

As of right now, there are 4 boys still available and 2 girls.

The next to start breeding is Parker and Pipsqueak with Poe. Breeding starts November 20th. They should all be Rex Dumbo. If you’re interested feel free to reach out ! Or visit: Adoptarat.com to start the free application process.

You can always check out their profiles and such at adoptarat.com, too.

RECIPE: FOR BANANA BREAD FOR RATS

Supplies:

• Food Processor or Blender

• Oven & oven mit

• Whisk (or spoon)

• Dehydrator (optional)

Ingredients: (always organic if possible)

  • Banana – 1
  • Unsalted Almonds – 1-2 TBS
  • Quinoa Flour – 1/8 cup
  • Egg – 1
  • Purified Water – 1/4 cup add more if needed
  • Olive Oil (dash)
  • Baking Powder (small pinch)
  • Rosemary – 1 tsp (natural preservative)

1. Start by blending your almonds and rosemary in a food processor, with the egg. Add the banana.

2. Move your mix to a separate bowl to add water, olive oil, and baking powder. (Unless it all fits in the processor- then blend.)

3. In a bowl, whisk in your quinoa flour.

If you plan to use a silicone mold, be sure to add a metal tray underneath for support.

4. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Pour your mix into your silicone mold or mini muffin pan (use muffin cups to avoid sticking).

*secret to the silicone molds with these recipes is to get wet first and shake them off before adding your batter.

THESE ARE HUMAN GRADE, GLUTEN FREE, NO ADDED SUGAR, TREATS FOR RATS!

Keep your batter in the fridge in between batches.

Always let the treats cool completely before trying to remove (or they may split).

RAT SPOTLIGHT

These lucky ladies are from our Mounika x Sesame batch. Though a bit shy at first they are taking nicely to their new home. I know they will be well cared for! Thank you again for making them apart of your family.

HOW TO MAKE AN ORIGINAL FORAGING BOX FOR RATS

Hello! 👋 when I started my Etsy a few years back, my instant top seller was a forage box for rats. It started out with me buying random boxes the dollar tree had to offer into takeout boxes I buy from Michaels.

Not here to keep what makes the original rat forage box, such a distinct classic alway with a variety of options.

I still remember one of my first forage boxes had a rubber llama. And when someone left a review, they said their rats were enjoying dragging the “llama” around the cage. Moral of the story: you can put just about anything inside of a box and call it a forage box for rats.

Please see our approved list of safe and natural materials you can use to make your own forage boxes.

Of course, you can also make fun dig boxes for your rats to forage through…

Another fun forage toy idea, is to take a toilet paper tube and stuff it with a variety of goodies for your rats. I made a foraging toy specifically for mice and their nesting needs:

How To Make A Forage Box For Rats:

  • Choose your filler: crinkle paper, paper shreds, and cut up raffia; are my favorite.
  • Will want to incorporate chewable items: like safe woods or puzzle pieces
  • Add something for nest building: pompoms are a fan favorite and so are felt shapes
  • Make it unique! Have a theme! If it’s Halloween, try incorporating safe, yet fun decorations (usually you can find some at the dollar store).

This year, I made four different styles for Halloween. Available on my website, here.

  • Rule of thumb: there should be no added chemicals (for instance, nothing that glows in the dark… exception would be yarn). Be sure no glue was used or that it is non-toxic.

Rats are smart enough to not ingest items that aren’t food related. However, if ingestion occurs remove your items immediately, supervise, and do not repeat the item again for future boxes.

Our adorable monthly rat boxes are handmade with so much love. You and your rats will be able to tell and appreciate the effort that goes into each and every thing that we make. We do not drop ship.

We do not buy from other stores. Everything is unique to itself, and these are one-of-a-kind items. We make toys, hammocks, and treats. When we make our treats, we make them with organic quinoa flour, organic eggs, and organic vegetables and fruits.

We emphasize our treats being lactose-free, without any added sugar, and gluten free. Our hammocks come in varying sizes to help you… feel prepared all the time with supplies. Not only that, but these packages are incredibly affordable, ranging from $25 to our famous Kai’s box, which is $150. You’re free to cancel at any time or switch boxes if you would like.

We are not a big brand name company. In fact, it is just one person currently making these boxes. I’m hoping to make my handmade rat toys and products a future for me and my family.

Your support means a lot to me, and I promise to put the same attention and care to detail in your monthly rat box. Did I mention there’s free shipping?
