Recipe for Making Rat Treats

Hello! I have made plenty of treats for my rats, as well as spent years in the culinary career. These treats are human grade and easy to make.

This is just the base! We recommend adjusting the recipe to add safe fruits or vegetables. See our safe foods list here.

First, gather your ingredients:

  • An Egg *REQUIRED
  • Olive Oil (just a dash)
  • Quinoa Flour (works best for this and includes protein, gluten free option)
  • Iodized Salt (trace amounts)
  • Baking Powder (trace amounts)
  • Purified Water
  • Crushed Organic Rosemary (organic preservative)

You could make treats with just the ingredients listed above. That’s your starter base. Adjust the water and flour levels with the egg to make a cake-like batter.

Additional Ingredients:

Fresh fruits and veggies, a seed mix (mine includes: ground flax (never whole) seed, hemp hearts, chia seeds, and sesame seeds), honey, yogurt, dried herbs.

Quick Tip: Baking with yogurt is hard! I suggest trying organic honey instead.

Second, preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Usually cook time is about 20 minutes depending on the shape of your mold.

Pick out a cute, heat resistant, silicone mold for your treats! Try to make them rat size.

Once you have your batter, it’s up to you but I will occasionally smoosh the fresh fruit first into the mold, followed by the batter to make it look very gourmet.

Quick Tip: If you can, dehydrate your treats after baking to boost their shelf life.
